Beauty corner: manicure - orange with French tips

Hi everyone! I haven’t been really painting my nails since starting this blog, but I actually really love nail polish and have been working on prepping and updating my polish collection for spring (as well as getting into making polishes, but that’s another post for another day). I’m not sure why but I tend to paint my nails LESS in the winter, which is too bad because nail polish can be a great (and inexpensive) way to add a little dose of color on those cold dreary days when we need it most. So in light of that, I’m going to start polishing at least once a week! I’m also going to tag all the nail-related blog entries with ~nails for quick reference.

(pardon the rain drops, it was pouring out this morning!)

I decided I’d start with something I have never tried before: French tips. I’ve had them done at the salon before, but never actually painted them on myself. I adore this type of French tip where the nail body is a bright color instead of nude, and it’s been floating around in my head for a while after seeing a fab pink and gray manicure over on Chalkboard Nails. I chose to do a bright orange body, one of spring’s trendy colors that I’m so totally into.

Normally when one is learning to do French tips, one starts by taping the tips. I am not patient enough to wait for the paint to dry, so I thought I’d take a shot at free-handing the tips. I’m quite pleased with how they turned out! They’re not perfect, but certainly not horrible for my First Try Ever. Of course, you’re all seeing these after I cleaned them up. A lot. For fun I included a shot of my very messy hands just after finishing painting last night below ^^

Manicure recipe:
OPI clear base coat
2 coats Sally Hansen - Hard as Nails “Hard To Get”
1 coat Sally Hansen - Xtreme Wear “White On”
