Thoughts:Ahh we finally had some actual nice weather! My husband and I spent most of the day out working in the yard; I worked on getting some much needed pruning, weeding, and raking done. I have been completely surprised that my violas and primroses have been continually blooming all of this winter, through the snow and all! Hopefully I didn’t work too hard, I always do the first time out each season and manage to be sore far longer than I’d like to admit ^^
Behind the outfit:Today’s outfit is full of items I haven’t worn recently. I started with the cardigan; since I don’t really like to layer cardigans over knits, I chose this rarely-worn black blouse and then decided to make the outfit have a relaxed menswear vibe. Initially I planned to leave the shirt untucked, but it’s fairly short so I decided instead to tuck it. From there, I picked these not-yet-worn-much heeled oxfords (but will certainly be wearing more of once the weather warms up), and after that I chose this woven belt to match; both have much more vibrant color than these photos show. I chose the jeans after all of that, going with these straight legs to show a little of the shoe and keep the legline slim but a bit loose. Thoughts: Last month Angie posted about how oversized sweaters are trending strongly this season. Personally I have a hard time with this one because I spent the 5th-8th grades wearing oversized 80s-printed sweaters, black stirrup leggings, and sneakers. The new silhouettes are pretty fun though, swingy and voluminous all over. I much prefer these shapes to the ones I was wearing back in the early 90s! I’ve not yet decided if I want to add one to my wardrobe, but I will seriously consider it if the right one crosses my path; I’m especially liking the ones with asymmetrical hems.
Behind the outfit:The starting point for today’s outfit was this oversized sweater outfit formula. My sweater is a boyfriend style sweater, but I pulled it down to pseudo-tunic length; I then went back and layered a black button-up shirt underneath the sweater because pulling it down made the neckline way too low for work. Initially I had my black skinny jeans on but the whole thing felt too dark. Then I remembered I had a new chunky red beret yet to be worn and it was raining, so I went with the red skinnies instead (I’m pretty smitten with the matching red jeans and beret).
I chose brown pumps, but in retrospect following the original formula and wearing boots would probably have looked more seasonally appropriate. What can I say, I love my skinnies+heels! I added the black watch and purse to pick up on the black shirt, though non-black items would have also worked; I liked the idea of repeating the black because I was already doing the matching thing with the beret+skinnies. The champagne pearls came out because I still felt the outfit needed more lightness, and they also add a touch of classic to help balance the red jeans (as does all the matching).](http://25.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_ludcx5pqwJ1r584afo1_1280.jpg)
