Thoughts:
Somehow my sweater shrunk when I washed it a couple days ago! I have washed it several times before, always the same way, with cold water and air dried. I’m hoping I can gently stretch the slouch back into it but I don’t have high hopes for that working. I’ll have to experiment with the sweater to see how to make it work for me if I can’t get it to stretch back to its normal shape. Not sure how much I like this tighter fit, it really emphasizes the dolman sleeve which isn’t the best sleeve shape for my strong shoulder line (the looser body helped to mitigate that). Sad.
I wasn’t really planning on going anywhere or seeing anyone today, so I was in my PJs when our friends stopped by for a short visit after going out for a ride. I therefore threw this together quite quickly, and am pretty pleased with how it turned out! This is actually a take on my spring color palette formula, with the ivory and color (green) only in the scarf. That little formula has really been a great tool when I need a little outfit inspiration!

Behind the outfit:
Well, today it’s quite wet out (I’m looking up at the rain starting to come down on the left, heh) and I really wanted to be wearing something slouchy and comfy. Because it’s so gloomy and dark, I also wanted an outfit that had a good shot of lightness in it. And of course, I’m trying to sneak in wearing these wool shorts as long as possible!
So with all of that in mind, today’s outfit started with the shorts. I’ve only worn them with my tall black boots two times (!), and decided to let them shine a bit so I chose my gray ribbed tights to make the contrasted item the boots (as opposed to black tights which would give the contrast to the shorts). The whole bottom half is still low contrast so the leg line stays nice and looong, even with the boots being flat; the vertical ribbing on the tights along with the boots being tall help add lengthening vertical lines, too.
Sweaters are my go-to top on cool days when I’m in the mood for slouchy-comfortable; this outfit is actually a variation of my easy-winter-sweater formula, with the jeans swapped for shorts+tights. This is one of my slouchiest sweaters, and if it didn’t have sparkly threads I think I would deem it a bit too casual for (my) work. Luckily I work in a very casual and creative environment! Lastly, I chose dark accessories to keep the light top from looking too out of place against the rather wintery bottom.

Behind the outfit:
It dried up a bit today and I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to wear my flared jeans! I was in a boho mood (mainly because of my hair, it looks really good today if I do say so myself!), so I ran with that. This top isn’t really boho, but I like the drapiness with flared jeans, especially when tucked in. To play up the soft colors and boho vibe I chose a cognac belt and shoes, and of course a long pendant; the top’s modern silhouette helps keep this from veering into 70s costumey territory.
My in-laws bought me this little coat for xmas a couple years back, and I always thought it was too sporty for my style so I’ve only worn it a handful of times. It’s also just a bit cropped which makes it less versatile. But lately, I’ve been eyeing it and thinking I should give it try as a casual jacket. I rather like wearing short jackets with my flared jeans, though I know this isn’t everyone’s cuppa tea; the wider legs help to balance the proportions with the short jacket. The final outerwear outfit feels like a sporty-yet-modern take on the 70s to me. And I love how the ivory lets the coral scarf really pop!

Thoughts:
We rarely have holiday parties to attend, so I don’t have a fun holiday wardrobe capsule with lots of sequins and jewels. This year we had a white elephant party to go to, and even though I knew it would be casual, I couldn’t help but inject some sparklies into my outfit! Especially after reading Angie’s post on holiday cover-ups (look at how glamorous everything is!). My sweater and scarf have metallic threads, my necklace and ring have rhinestones, and my purse is a crackled bronze. All subtly shiny, but they felt nice and festive as a group. I like the warm/cool mix here; definitely works with my Icy Autumn palette (which I’m still refining), and the sparkly elements are like the frost at sunrise ^^
Hair update: I asked my friend Kari if she would share her stylist’s contact with me since her hair is always so amazing looking, and I will be calling on Monday to make an appointment!
YLF Secret Santa gifts:
Today we got to open our YLF Secret Santa gifts! I got two lovely antiquated brass pieces, a charm necklace and an owl ring. I love them! And of course, I just had to wear the ring right away. Thank you Secret Santa! [UPDATE: OK now I know who it was, so, thank you Kimlee!!)

And here’s the necklace I made for my draw (happily she liked it, I was so worried it would be too over the top):

It was super fun watching everyone unveil their gifts and try to guess who sent them. I wish I’d participated last year but I was too shy. Well, I definitely plan to continue participating in the future!
