Worn to: quick grocery store run
Behind the outfit:
It was gloriously warm today! My husband and I enjoyed spending all day in the yard playing games and soaking up the sun. I was wearing this gray camisole and baggy denim shorts most of the day, but popped on a jacket, jeans, and heels for a quick run to the grocery.

Worn to: birthday day off work! Mariner’s game, dessert at Purple
Thoughts:
For my birthday today my very sweet husband surprised me with a killer tote! I’ve been eying it for a while; it comes in sooo many delicious colors, I had the hardest time choosing between the emerald, cobalt, or tangerine. Very happy with this emerald, it’s such a gorgeous, brilliant color. We both took the day off and went to a baseball game for some relaxing entertainment (don’t worry, my choice! too bad they lost 0-3 though), followed by delicious birthday dessert.
Behind the outfit:
Today’s outfit came together out of a short list of necessities: I wanted an outfit with the Ms colors, flat comfy shoes because I knew we’d be walking quite a bit, and pants if possible. This new turquoise sweater isn’t quite the Ms shade, but it was close enough for me! It’s actually the same sweater as yesterday’s but in a size down. Because of that it loses some length, making it better suited for skirts than pants; I got around that by layering a navy tank underneath for some extra length (and a fun light-to-dark tonal gradient!). And since I’m trying to wear my jeans less I chose my black trousers instead of black skinny jeans. Added the pearl necklace for a pop of lightness (which is also echoed by the bits of exposed skin, and the white watch), and popped on my brown faux leather jacket along with a scarf for an extra layer of warmth while at the ballpark.

Worn to: work, Adam’s to play with ferrets, dinner @ La Palmera (Mill Creek)
Thoughts:
Today I had a surprise trip to play with some ferrets (our friend is out of town) after work! I hadn’t expected to play with them, and learned that breezy tops and super wide pants make for exciting ferret exploring territory ^^
Behind the outfit:
This is another rare combo (that’s twice in one week!) that I enjoy repeating, though I like to switch up the color of the tank underneath. Last year I wore this shirt+jean combo with the tank tucked in for a super 70s vibe, but today I left it untucked for the short-over-long trend we’ve got going on this season. Also left my hair down to really play up the boho vibe.

Worn to: breakfast @ diner in Index, hiking, lounging outside at home
Thoughts:
My husband and I went for our first hike of the season today, it was gorgeous! We went up to Bridal Veil Falls, which I hadn’t been to before; it was VERY busy, and more humid than expected, but the trail was a great little season starter hike. The falls were really going strong and we enjoyed eating lunch at the base of the falls in the cool spray. If we’d managed to get there earlier we would have liked to continue on to Lake Serene, so maybe we’ll get a chance to try that again later this summer when the falls subside.

And what better way to relax at the end of the day than with some wine by the fire pit?

Behind the outfit:
This outfit is more “gear” than “fashion”, but I decided to share it because it did have to pull double-duty since we had breakfast at a little diner beforehand. So I needed to come up with an outfit that would work for the hike itself as well as look somewhat decent for breakfast, which proved a bit challenging. I was stumped about how to work an outfit both ways until I thought about what I do on motorcycle rides: change shoes, change jacket, put hair up. Small changes, but they really help me feel more put together when I’m in mostly gear.
It was also quite warm out today which made things a bit trickier; pants would be too warm for the hike, but shorts a little too cool for breakfast. I ended up compromising by wearing longer denim shorts (instead of shorter, more athletic shorts) and a ribbed cotton tank as the base outfit; swapping the shoes and toppers for breakfast/hiking kept the outfit appropriate enough. The outfit on the left is what I wore “out”, and on the right for the hike I simply swapped the jacket for a sweatshirt and the flats for tennies.

Worn to: post office, work, dinner @ Ivar’s (Mukilteo)
Behind the outfit:
Debuting The Neon Bracelet. I wanted to wear something soft with these wide leg trousers, but struggled. Primarily because they are already quite voluminous and I don’t have many tops that are “soft” but also fitted. So I decided to use knits as an element of softness, choosing a soft tee and a knit blazer; without the jacket the overall color palette is also rather soft. I pinned the sides of my hair underneath for a different, even softer than normal look (similar to what I did back in December for the 1940s challenge, but with the twist underneath rather than over). And of course I couldn’t resist matching my blazer with an equally happy bright orange lip color!
Overall I think that this turned out OK, and photographed OK, but I still did not feel super in it. However I do feel that the all-soft volume-on-volume look is something I could come around to, especially if it ends up looking something like this. I’ll definitely try experimenting with it again in the future.

Worn to: bank (WF), work, Type Tuesday
Thoughts:
I got these awesome silky cropped cargo pants at the YLF swap this past weekend, and they’re one of the pieces I’m most excited about playing with. Yes, they are a bit different from what I usually wear; in that regard, this outfit is probably as sporty as you’ll ever see me! But I really love the softness, the longer length when worn as shorts (I don’t plan to ever wear them as pants), and especially love the very slouchy vibe they give off. The sheen makes these pants quite hard to photograph, so you’ll have to trust me when I say that they actually do drape nicely. Unfortunately my husband hated this outfit (the pants in particular, especially paired with pumps), but I really liked it.
Behind the outfit:
I know I’m shooting for softer dressing but for the debut outing of these pants, which are already a little out of my comfort zone, I wanted to pair with more structured pieces; I am happy with the amount of softness they add just on their own, at least for now. I also thought it’d be fun to play up the sporty vibe. So for structure, I chose my white blazer, skinny blue leather belt, and gray pumps; and for sportiness, I chose a ribbed tank, plain hoop earrings, and another try at a messy fanned bun (which I’m still loving since trying it out last week). And topped it all off with a bright red lip!

Worn to: YLF swap w/Kikii and Cristin then lunch at Red Robin and a quick stop at Fred Meyer, Joe & Brad & Cristin & Kikii over for dinner and TV chillin’
Thoughts:
Today was the annual YLF Spring Seattle clothing swap! It’s a great little wardrobe boost, without spending any money. I went for the first time last year, not really prepared for how fun and helpful it would be. This year I was prepared! I’ve been setting clothing aside all year as I work on paring down my wardrobe, so I brought a HUGE box full of clothing, shoes, and accessories to the swap. And also I brought my sister and friend Cristin along! They were a little shy, but still had some great finds and afterwards they were both already ready (and me too!) for next year’s swap. I’ll post our goodies later this weekend.
UPDATE: Read Antje’s lovely write up of the swap over on YLF!
As an aside, a couple of weeks ago Angie proposed giving up denim for a week and I’ve decided to take up the challenge this coming week. That should prove to be a real challenge for me since I wear jeans nearly every day, but I am looking forward to the challenge!
Behind the outfit:
I was very happy with the shopping outfit I wore a couple weeks ago out with Christine, so I decided to wear a variation of it to the swap. It works especially well for this type of event for several reasons:
Off topic and for fun:
Tonight we had a “supermoon”, though were I live it was rather cloudy so we didn’t get the best view of it (here’s a good photo from Seattle from another photographer). It was brilliantly bright though, and through binoculars it was spectacular looking! Here are a few photos I snapped (click for larger views):

Worn to: @ home pie/coffee/baseball, gardening, Scuttlebutt, Lowes
Behind the outfit:
A basic weekend outfit using my favorite “spiff up a tee” outfit formula modified for a colder day, subbing in a sweater for the tee. Layering up the necklaces (or adding just one statement necklace) and popping on a jacket takes the outfit from basic casual to pulled-together casual. And if this outfit needed to be further dressed up, simply swapping these casual flat boots for dressier footwear will pull the dressiness factor up yet another level, as would a dressier jacket. An easy outfit base that can go from lounging to Lowes to lunch:
Base outfit: sweater + jeans + statement necklace
