Thoughts:
I felt great in this outfit, though felt under dressed at the comedy show. Maybe it had to do with the room being so fancy, or the ushers being in cocktail attire, but even though we were on the dressier end of the patron spectrum both my husband and I felt like we should’ve dressed much nicer!
Behind the outfit:
Yes I know I wore these boots only two days ago but after the comments I got yesterday, I just wanted to wear some of my favorite things today! And I really love how they look over my black skinnies, so I formed the outfit around that. I definitely prefer to have a good dose of lightness with this pairing, and today I was feeling like wearing something especially light so I chose this cream and navy sweater. It drapes really well, so I enjoy semi-tucking it and did so today. I added the coral skinny belt for a little pop of color, and also because I’m enjoying filling belt loops with slim belts these days. Gold earrings for added warmth, white watch for added brightness, and hair down to play into the outfit’s softness.

While I’ve put away nearly all of my winter items, these nude boots are going to stay out until the last possible second! I’m guessing around mid-April; the color could certainly be used all year but, regardless of color, tall boots just don’t feel springy enough to me. I do see plenty of women wearing their tall boots all the way up until the start of summer around here because our springs are just ridiculously cold and wet. If it stays really cool I may leave them out until the end of the month, but we’ll see how the weather goes.
Behind the outfit:
In light of wearing some cooler weather items, today I wanted to wear this spring dress with my nude boots again while I can because I just love the combo! Not quite warm enough to skip the hose, so I wore my trusty nude fishnets. To lighten the look up I added an ivory studded belt and white watch, and there’s a small peek of white camisole as well. I thought about a necklace, but I think I’mm starting to feel a bit off them after wearing so many pendants this past winter. So instead I put my hair up and went with long dangly gold earrings!
(And because it’s much colder than that sun may lead you to think, I of course needed a coat. To keep it light, I added my taupe scarf which picks up on the light boots and helps to bookend them against the dark coat/hair. And the bright orange purse is just fun ^^)

This pretty bird print scarf is new, which I just picked up to help satiate my current desire to wear all things taupe (and I’m pretty much wearing them all in this outfit). You can find it here, in black, navy, and of course this taupe. It’s a lot thinner and gauzier than my other scarves, and also quite wide. I LOVE the way it drapes! I have hunch it’s going to be my favorite go-to scarf this spring!
Backlogged outfits update: Mar 10th | Sorting and Storing Polish | Mar 11th manicure | Mar 11th | Mar 12th | Mar 13th
(And with that, I’m all caught up!!)
Behind the outfit:
Today’s outfit is a variation on the shorts+taupe tall boots outfit I wore last week, but this time the color comes from the jacket instead of the scarf AND it was happily warm enough to swap the sweater tights for textured hose! I just love how these taupe boots look with the tweedy shorts, and wanted to be sure to wear the combo (at least!) one more time before I have to put away both the shorts and tall boots for the season.
I started with the same base (tee, shorts, boots), and knew I wanted to wear my new scarf. With the warmer weather I decided to get a little subtle print mixing in so I chose these textured tights (which kind of mimics the bird motif, as someone over on YLF pointed out). The tights aren’t as low contrast as my gray sweater tights, so the tonal scarf does a little extra duty in softening the outfit.
As I’ve mentioned previously, because the tee is so casual I prefer to wear it with a jacket to add a little structure and dressiness. Today I chose my teal blazer to add a good pop of color since the outfit shaped up entirely neutral otherwise. And I finished the look off with pearl earrings, leaving my hair down, and a light pink lip gloss. The overall outfit effect is decidedly soft, much softer than last week’s version. I really like it!

Hope you’re all having a great weekend! Since I’ve been busy crafting for my Etsy shop, I am just starting to look over my spring wardrobe. For some reason it’s been hard to get inspired with our unseasonably cold weather, when usually this is when I go overboard with my dreams of sunny days. Part of the issue is that I actually like my spring/summer wardrobe MORE than my fall/winter wardrobe which isn’t good since fall is the dominant season where I live; on the plus side, I feel like I don’t have to do as much to get my spring/summer wardrobe ready to go. Deciding to lighten up for spring early has helped get me started thinking about what I do want to do, though, and I have made a few purchases already (some of which you’ve seen): loafers, watercolor printed blouse, bright orange blazer, teal blazer, a couple transitional dresses, and several bright, colorful printed scarves. In addition I also recently picked up a couple new lip colors which I plan to review soon!
Also, things are moving along nicely for my Etsy shop reopening, though there has been a bit of a setback regarding my handcrafted nail polishes which I hope to get sorted soon. In the meantime, I’ve got a few more pretty soon-to-be-earrings cab previews to share with you guys which I created last night:

That left one is one of my favorites, it’s got so much depth and color. For more, click here!
Behind the outfit:
Today I wanted something simple to run errands with. I started with the boots and jeans (love these two together!), then decided to sandwich the black with more taupe. After adding the tee, I knew I’d need a jacket since I don’t really like to wear plain tees on their own. I tried a couple of my jackets, and had almost decided to wear my ink blue tweed moto when I gave this brown jacket a try. And was totally digging the different shades of browns in the outfit, up to three with the jacket. I chose the brass pendant and earrings to add to the brown tones, and then in honor of St. Patrick’s day added a blue and green scarf for the outerwear (and of course my green nails) ^^

Behind the outfit:
This morning I needed a quick casual outfit so I went to my easy-winter-sweater formula, but subbed in some lighter pieces because honestly I’m getting a bit weary of wearing my winter darks: light tall boots give a big block of lightness, gold watch and earrings to add some warm tones, and white-based printed scarf add an extra shot of lightness to the outerwear. I also rather liked how the blue-green shirt is a blend of both colors in the scarf.

Thoughts:
Apparently, we now have an arena football team (Everett Raptors), and my in-laws have season tickets. My husband’s folks did some work for them as well as an ad in the stadium, so in return they have a set of 4 season tickets. Today was their home opener against the Allen Wranglers, and my husband and I were invited to go along. I was expecting the pacing to be pretty quick, but other than plays being shorter because the field is shorter, it didn’t seem much faster than NFL football. The Raptors also didn’t play very well, and had a pretty blow-out loss at 27-48. Hopefully they’ll improve, but at least we all had fun!
On a fashion-related note, few things make me feel more polished and uplifted than having my brows freshly done. Some people feel this way about their hair, but for me it’s definitely my eyebrows ^^
Behind the outfit:
I’ve been itching to try styling these boots with my black jeans, so today I decided to form my outfit around that. I love how it turned out! I was a bit nervous wearing these boots, and such a light outfit in general, to the arena in case me or someone else spilled food/drink (I’m messy) but happily nothing happened.
Since my hair is dark I needed to have enough additional lightness to keep things balanced, so I decided to go all-out light for the top half with my hair down to act as a counter-balancing dark element (otherwise the eye would be drawn right to my pants). I started with the taupe tee for one because it goes-but-doesn’t-exactly-match the boots (I was in a matchy mood this morning!), and for two because it adds an additional brown element so the boots look more intentional.
It’s still too cold for the tee on its own, though I’m not sure I’d want to wear it unlayered anyway. Since it has good length I decided to wear this almost-cropped cream sweater over it, which also adds a great dose of lightness, and I think an even more cropped sweater would be fun too. The sweater has 3/4 length sleeves, so I folded the tee’s sleeves over and then pushed it all up.
For the accessories I chose this turquoise pendant to add just a little bit of color (and a bit of relaxed boho vibe), and the black watch to add a third dark element (uneven elements are more visually interesting). For the outerwear I went with this cream coat to keep the lightness going in the outerwear, and the red purse to add a big shot of color plus I love pairing red+turquoise+white. And I topped the whole look off with a bright red lip!

Thoughts:
Hubby and my’s Valentine tradition is a visit to the Seattle Aquarium, which we’ve done every year since we started dating way back in 1999. Mostly because I love fishies! Since Valentine’s is on Tuesday, we did our big date today and plan to have a nice fancy dinner at home on the 14th.
The first stop of the day was a great little spice shop (which we started incorporating into our Valentine’s after getting married) to restock on some of our favorite not-too-common spices since we don’t drive down to Seattle that much. David had made reservations at a great French restaurant nestled in Pike Place Market called Maximilien, where we had a yummy brunch. After eating we moseyed through the market, and David bought me the pretty dried flower bouquet I’m holding in the photos above. We also stopped by a couple other great spice shops in the Market, one of which where I was delighted to find dried jasmine flowers in bulk (so good in tea!).
Then it was off to the Aquarium, where we grabbed some coffee before starting the rounds because it was coooooold out. I took lots of photos of fish (as usual), and I’ve posted a bunch so you can enjoy our trip to the Aquarium with us:

We had a great time! Hope you all enjoyed the photos ^^
Behind the outfit:
This is the pretty dress I picked up from Old Navy a few days ago, and I can tell it’s definitely going to be great for spring once the weather warms up a bit. My husband is not a fan of tights but he loves dresses and skirts, so I wanted to make today’s outfit look somewhat like I didn’t need to wear something warm on the bottom half. I chose my nude fishnet tights and paired with these taupe boots to give a “nude” effect and still be warm enough. Love how it looks!
I struggled a bit with the belt, though. The dress has an elasticized waist and I am lacking in belt options which are short enough to wear at my waist, since I usually wear my belts in pant loops. I ended up picking this one because the dark brown picks up on my hair, and the boots are sort of brownish so it “goes” but doesn’t “match”. I belted it on the smallest notch, and then used double-sided tape to stick the looooong overlapping end back to the belt (with mixed success). I’m really happy with how this outfit turned out, and have to say that these boots were great for walking around all day.

Thoughts:
Neutrals challenge day five! I just realized I’m wearing a lot of gifts today, I sure do know how to ask for the things I like ^^ This is the debut of the pretty boots my sweet husband bought me for xmas! Why did I wait so long to wear them you ask? In a few words, I am lazy. In a few more words, I need to waterproof them and I haven’t yet and it’s always wet/rainy and I was afraid to ruin them. I still haven’t waterproofed them, but I just couldn’t wait any longer to wear them!
One interesting thing about the leather these boots are made of: it’s much more taupey/gray indoors, but when in natural light they become much warmer looking. If I showed you an indoor photo of them, you wouldn’t believe it’s the same boot! I do wish this was the other way around since I spend more time indoors than out, and the outside color is just gorgeous with my skin and functions like a nude.
Behind the outfit:
Today’s outfit formed around the dress, and this was the second outfit I put together for this challenge at the start of the week. Because this dress is neutral colorblocked I knew it would be perfect for this challenge! I also wanted to sneak another shot of blue denim in, and was pleasantly surprised to find that this jacket fit over the dress’s wide dolman sleeves; it’s just a little bit too long over dresses, a more cropped version would certainly be cheekier and is on my list to buy for this upcoming spring/summer season.
Since most of the week’s outfits were primarily dark (winter and all) I thought, to lighten this look, having more exposed skin instead of adding white would be fun. So I planned to wear these boots and crossed my fingers that it wouldn’t be pouring by today. Happily the weather cooperated! It’s definitely still too cold to go tightsless, so I added these nude mini-fishnet tights (you may need to load the full size image to see ‘em). If you haven’t ever given this type of hosiery a try, I HIGHLY suggest them! They are super fantastic for transitional and mild weather, and as an added bonus add a little extra textural interest.
I had originally planned on wearing my brass and pearl bib necklace with this outfit, but since I wore it yesterday I needed to find something else instead. So I decided to further play up the many vertical lines in this outfit and chose this long pendant. I had expected it to be cold enough to need both my wool coat and a warm scarf, but to my surprise it was quite mild so I ended up tying the scarf to my purse and ditching my coat.
