Thoughts:As much as I’d like to be on Team Wear, I’m not quite there. I don’t really “save” my clothing for special occasions or anything, I just usually like to wait a while to let an item percolate in my brain before I cut the tags. I did this with most of my new purchases for the season. However! These lovely new pumps (80s cone-heeled bright bright cobalt goodness!) did NOT sit in wait as long as most of my purchases, just a couple weeks while I waffled on which size to keep. They are remarkably comfortable, and I’m reallllyyyyy hoping that Nordstrom will reissue these in a few other shades (they had a bright pink and leopard, neither of which appealed to me). Houndstooth gets my top vote.
Behind the outfit:Today is my husband’s birthday so I decided to wear something simple, formed around pieces I know he likes, the chambray shirt and the gray jeans, and kept the jewelry small and sentimental. I initially had on my gray houndstooth flats since my husband bats for Team Flats; I know he’d have preferred the flats, but I just couldn’t resist switching to the bright blue pumps! Plus they’re new! I’m rationalizing that the cobalt “goes” with the blue chambray, so… it’s all still very matchy-matchy, so that keeps it simple still, right?? ^^
Today was back to being cold enough for a coat, so I chose my coral scarf to add an additional bit of brightness to the outerwear. In retrospect, I should have worn a different purse; normally I like the high contrast, but with the two brights (coral scarf, cobalt heels) it felt a bit off. If I did this outfit over again, I’d instead go with my gold mini-satchel which would also pick up nicely on my bright yellow nails.

Thoughts:While I’ve put away nearly all of my winter items, these nude boots are going to stay out until the last possible second! I’m guessing around mid-April; the color could certainly be used all year but, regardless of color, tall boots just don’t feel springy enough to me. I do see plenty of women wearing their tall boots all the way up until the start of summer around here because our springs are just ridiculously cold and wet. If it stays really cool I may leave them out until the end of the month, but we’ll see how the weather goes.
Behind the outfit:In light of wearing some cooler weather items, today I wanted to wear this spring dress with my nude boots again while I can because I just love the combo! Not quite warm enough to skip the hose, so I wore my trusty nude fishnets. To lighten the look up I added an ivory studded belt and white watch, and there’s a small peek of white camisole as well. I thought about a necklace, but I think I’mm starting to feel a bit off them after wearing so many pendants this past winter. So instead I put my hair up and went with long dangly gold earrings!
(And because it’s much colder than that sun may lead you to think, I of course needed a coat. To keep it light, I added my taupe scarf which picks up on the light boots and helps to bookend them against the dark coat/hair. And the bright orange purse is just fun ^^)

Behind the outfit:After yesterday’s very dark outfit, today I felt like wearing something light and bright. I started with the gingham blouse because it’s so cheerful, and then chose these gray skinny jeans because they’re my lightest! I generally won’t wear the same shoes two days in a row (gotta let ‘em air out!), but these boots just felt perfect for the outfit today so I went ahead and wore them anyway. I added gold accessories (earrings, watch) to play up the warm tones, chose with my white puffer and gold purse to add to the lightness, and wore the same floral scarf as yesterday to add just a little darkness to the outerwear.

Thoughts:Happy xmas!
An amusing story about my cat and Christmas: He LOVES it. The tree, the decorations, and most of all his stocking. When he sees the decorations storage bins come out of the garage, he races around the house like a kitten (he’s a chubby 12-year old). As soon as the tree is inside, he’s busy trying to chew on/get underneath it as quick as possible. When the gifts are placed underneath, he immediately scopes out a path so he can further sit under the tree. He is hyper the entire time the tree is set up (usually he sleeps, sleeps, and sleeps some more).

So last night we filled the stockings so we could open them first thing in the morning. Kitty was NOT impressed that he had to wait (above). And woke us up early so he could get into his goodies (below). Each year I wonder if it’s a fluke that he actually remembers this time of year, but he’s been doing it for so long I have to admit it’s just a really cute thing that he does ^^

Behind the outfit:I fretted about what to wear today; needed to be something nice but casual, something that I could both relax and hostess in. I realized that my red and white outfit from a couple days ago was a perfect option. Then there was further fretting about whether I should repeat it so soon after wearing it. Ultimately I decided that I would, but of course change a few elements: swapped out the blue jeans for gray skinnies (the other ones are too long without shoes), left my hair down, added a Santa hat, and no outerwear/shoes since I didn’t leave the house.
Honestly I thought it’d be harder to repeat after going so long without doing it so closely, but it was a relief not to have to worry about what to wear while my in-laws were over. I am definitely going to relax my no-repeats rule.
Exciting fashion xmas gifts (part 1):Note about part 2: My folks celebrate Christmas in early January, and my dad’s birthday is on New Year’s Eve so we do presents with them on the 31st.
From my wonderful husband:
Miz Mooz “Flynn” boots in taupe, which I’ve been pining after for months! Unfortunately they may be a bit too wide/tall, I am still thinking about it.
a black and white houndstooth scarf with long, fringed ends
running shoes for the gym (OK not super fashion-related, but I despeartely needed them, and they are cute and purple!)
From my in-laws:
a lovely Stella And Dot necklace, with taupey stones and crystals
silver circular woven-wire earrings
some pretty Opi nail polishes (chocolate brown, blue glitter, silver crackle)
charcoal leg warmers

Thoughts:I bought these boots over a year ago, and randomly decided to look them up online since I hadn’t worn them on this blog yet. Imagine my surprise to see that they are still for sale!! If you are looking for an ivory pointed-toe bootie, these are really fabulous; super soft leather, small stacked heel, lightly cushioned insole, and the ruching detail is lovely. Highly recommended! (I am not getting any money for linking, just wanted to share because I think they are such a fab bootie ^^)
Also, this scarf knot looks particularly wimpy, don’t you think? It could be the scarf (it’s pretty thin) but I’m really in the mood for bigger, more dramatic scarf knots for outerwear. Noted!
Behind the outfit:Today I felt like being festive since I was shopping for presents! I started with the cardigan+blouse combo; I really like wearing structured blouses under cardigans, and the red and white has been feeling super festive to me this year. Initially I wanted to wear my red pumps, but since those are 4” heels they’re not conducive to marathon shopping; walking all day really limits my current footwear options. These booties aren’t quite all day walking shoes for me, maybe 6 hours (with no sitting breaks; they work for longer with breaks), but I was crossing my fingers that I wouldn’t be shopping for more than 6 hours. Unfortunately this was not the case, of course. It was crazy out there!
Anyway, I liked how the ivory booties bookended the white blouse, but since my hair is dark I needed to add a few other light elements to make it really look balanced: first, I picked these mid-toned straight leg jeans so the booties were more of a “peek of color”; second, I rolled the blouse cuffs up over the cardigan’s sleeves (the cardigan is 3/4 sleeves so this had to be done anyway); third, I wore my white watch (haven’t worn it since summer); and fourth, I added the pearl bib necklace, which also felt nice and festive. For outerwear, this coat keeps the booties from looking odd and since it’s such a big chunk of white the other white details that are hidden aren’t necessary.

Thoughts:The last several years my husband and I have been going to a u-cut farm up in Arlington to get our xmas trees, and spending the day wandering around a mini forest is a lot of fun! This year all the trees were trimmed narrow and straight (guess that’s what’s trendy in Christmas trees this year; a friend of mine saw this in stores when looking for a plastic tree as well!). It was ridiculously hard to find a good fat, dense tree. We spend a good few hours and walked through, like, the whole farm (it’s not small, let me tell you) before finally finding our tree. Can’t wait to decorate, I love putting on lights and ornaments!

Behind the outfit:Today’s forecast was “wet and cold”, so I needed waterproof footwear and outerwear. These boots are synthetic and are my go-to boots when it’s really wet, but they don’t really have any traction and aren’t quite good enough as a proper rain boot/mud boot (that’s a hole I need to fill for sure). I decided to wear my straight leg jeans for a really relaxed vibe, and then the gingham just felt like it fit. A little bit country, a little bit preppy.
I also rarely wear my raincoat (must be the Cascadian in me), though it is nice and cheerful. It was certainly too cold not to have a scarf, so I picked this dotty brown one to add a little whimsy. Crossbody was practical for the purse, though I ended up leaving it in the car. And in case you’re wondering about the bright purple gloves in the fourth photo, those are my gardening gloves ^^

Thoughts: Still not quite feeling better, but good enough to have date night dinner! Plus, we’re supposed to head down to Portland tomorrow for the Winter Alefest so this will be a good test for whether or not I’ll be able to go (I mean, sheesh, if I can’t handle dinner…).
Behind the outfit:I know I said it before, but it’s so handy having my favorite formulas tagged here for those days when I need a little extra motivation or feel a little sick. Today I used my favorite skinnies+heels formula, because, hey, who can feel bad in heels? I started this outfit with the cardigan; last time I wore it with a black camisole and jeans, so today I thought I’d wear white/gray. With my hair down it needed dark footwear because it felt a bit too top heavy even with the white camisole, but after putting my hair up I think the footwear could be either light or dark.
